Pictorialist Studies

Inspired by the Pictorialists who used to modify their camera lenses to achieve an effect resembling a painting - back when there was a debate about photography being art or not - I created this series of portraits, placing a glass between my camera and the object and modifying it with water, oil, soap, and paint.

Urban Nights

A rehearsal about city, lights, and myopia

"Urban Nights - a rehearsal about city, lights and myopia" was my graduation project for the bachelor's degree in Media Studies at the Federal University of Pernambuco.

Unfocused lights and blurred images of the night contrast with the clichéd images of the city, presenting an imaginary vision of a city seen at night.
The exhibition features artistic photographs that draw from the source of Impressionism and run away from the perfect view of the world, being more concerned with the impression it brings us, particularly the atmosphere of the city at night. The images are the result of the photographer's reflection on the multiple ways of seeing the city. Through unfocused and blurred photos, the myopic vision, also shared by impressionist artists, according to the neuroscientist Noel Dan, brings a reinterpretation of the urban night, appreciating the shapes and colors that this scenario offers.

"Urban Nights" invites us to see the cosmopolitan twilight hours from a different perspective and open up the possibilities for our own urban imagery.
